Our church held it’s annual ‘Trunk-or-Treat’ on Sunday. This forced us to have the costume situation in-check a few days before Halloween! For the first year ever, Emerson was pretty opinionated about what he wanted to be. (Mama wanted him to be a little Kentucky Fried Chicken Colonel Sanders, but I was veto-ed!!!)
We set to work to create Emerson’s dream costume — you guessed it — Lightning McQueen racecar! The construction, decoration and assembly only took approximately 5-6 hours worth of combined parent’s time, but the end product made it worth it!
You never know what kind of weather you’re going to get for a North Carolina fall day. Last year, we were bundled up and cold and this year, it was 81 degrees on Trunk-or-Treat day. I was worried poor Elliott Giraffe would be too hot in her plush costume!
With all the effort we put into this Halloween costume of Emerson’s, I’m going to hang on to it for a few years, just in case he begs me to be Lightning McQueen again another year! Also, I owe Elliott a few custom-requested creations in years to come!
We are looking forward to a spook-tacular, full week of Halloween activities, including, Emerson’s class party, Trick-or-Treating in our neighborhood and more. My parents are flying it on Wednesday, which will make it ever more fun.
To check out past year’s worth of Halloween costumes. You can see I have a soft spot for home-made costumes!
